My dad picked Peter up at 10:30AM. Apparently when my dad picked peter up, he literally picked peter up because peter was crying about an upset tummy. But then he must have missed a step because they fell. My dad tried to get under him as best he could, but Peter landed on his shoulder and then hit his head on the concrete ground. Luckily it was flat, and not on, say the edge of a step. The lt. told us that they were taking him to Hasbro as a precaution (precaution my ass, man, Natasha Richardson anyone? I say if you hit your head, it should be a protocol, not a precaution.) My dad rode in the ambulance with him, leaving his car at the daycare. I left the line of cars with my soon-to-be-brother-in-law with me to keep me calm (yeah right!) We got to Hasbro right as the ambulance was pulling in. He speech was really really slurred - I couldn't understand what he was saying. My dad said that when it happened, Peter's eyes rolled to the left and stayed that way for a full minute - no crying, no response to what had just happened. He picked him up (my dad is all banged up too, btw), and carried him inside. The fact that he didn't respond for the first minute + the slurred speech = a CT scan. The cat scan showed a fracture - a minimally depressed fracture, meaning it's not deep enough to warrant surgery to bring it back up to level THANK GOD. It's a horizontal fracture about three inches wide. They admitted us overnight for observation because he threw up twice in the ER. He threw up once at 3AM this morning. They came in every other hour to do vitals, shine a light in his eyes, and to basically check on him. He's on Tylenol every 4-6 hours (I somehow have to stay up to 10:30PM tonight to give him a dose - no idea how I'm going to do that since I'm so tired.) I'm out for the rest of the week because he CANNOT hit his head AT ALL in the next three days. And then, after that, until about August 15th, he cannot hit his head. I know that sounds the same as the sentence before, but it's more dire if it's some time this week. I have to follow up with his pediatrician tomorrow to make an appt. for either tomorrow or Thursday, at which point I'm going to ask if when he goes back to the daycare on Monday, if it's better if I send him in a helmet? That just seems like common sense to me, but I don't know. He's also walking with a slight limp. Everyone at Hasbro was SO nice. Dave and I are going to send them something to say thank you. Seriously, they were fantastic. Anything we needed they catered to. Anytime we had a question, they sent a dr. right in. I have no idea how I'm going to keep a 3 year old from running around over the next week, and really next 8 weeks. We won't be going to the Berkshires for the 4th, since if he bumps his head and has any ill effects, I don't want to be 2 hours away from the hospital. We won't be going to his cousin's birthday party on Sunday, because they have a big air bouncy, and that's just really not fair. My poor buddy. I'm just so sorry for him.
